A NEW NAME

Passage: Genesis 32:28

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel.”
Genesis 32:28, NKJV

And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Genesis 32:28, KJV

TODAY’S WORD
In the Scripture, for much of his life, Jacob lived up to the meaning of his name, “swindler, supplanter, deceiver.” Thoughts told him, “Jacob, this is just who you are. You’re a fraud, a con man.” But that still small voice whispered, “No, you’re better than this, Jacob. I’ve put greatness in you.” Years went by, and finally the night came when Jacob surrendered to God and asked Him to take away the condemnation and feelings of being a failure. God came to Jacob and gave him a new name, Israel, which can be translated “prince with God.” When he saw himself as a prince, he started making choices that honoured God. The enemy would love for you to go through life seeing yourself as a failure, feeling unworthy. Why don’t you give God your image? He sees you as restored, as redeemed. You may have failed in the past, but that’s what you did; that’s not who you are. Failure is an event, not a person. You are a child of the Most High God. He calls you a prince. Become Israel.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“FATHER, thank You that You have a new name for me and that by Your grace I am going to reign in life. Thank You that I can take negative labels off my life and proudly wear the name of a prince and become all that You have called me to be. I believe that You are going to bless me in amazing ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
